Description
The MB Revision extension for Meta Box allows you to monitor changes to custom post-revision fields: save, compare, and restore revision details. All field forms, including classes, are assisted and provide a simple way to see the modifications in each revision.
What is an overhaul?
A record of each saved draft or published update is stored by the WordPress Revisions Framework. The revision framework allows you to see what improvements, what was added, what remained unchanged and what was removed, were made with each revision. Added or omitted lines are highlighted, and additional highlighting is provided for individual character changes. To restore a revision, press the button ‘Restore This Revision’.
WordPress records the changes by default only for the post title and post material. The MB Revision also allows custom field monitoring. This is the extension for you if you store a lot of data in the custom fields, and want to see the improvements that your users have made.
Why does it matter to track revisions for custom fields?
Because not just post title and post content is your info! Project pages require unique data to be stored in custom fields for a wide website to build pages, such as landing pages. It is very important because carelessly changing them may cause a significant decrease in leads or sales. And you need to make sure that you’re doing it right every time you edit.
Another scenario is when you have several users on your website who can edit the content. What if somebody switches a field when he’s distracted or sleepy? When it happens, how do you know who did that?
For these purposes, you need to track feedback of all sorts of content you may have in order to avoid unwanted changes in the content of the website.
How is the extension functioning?
3 things the plugin does:
The custom field values are automatically copied from the parent post to the new revision when the parent post is revised.
Displays the modifications on the contrast panel for the revision. Changes to custom fields are shown below the post title and post text. If the value is an array, you can see an array JSON-encoded (cloneable, group field). For human reading, we think JSON is very fine. And we can see not only the system, but the actual data as well.
Restores the custom field values from a revision to the parent post when a revision is restored by users.
All you need to do to allow revision support is add ‘revision’ => true to the meta-box configuration. The extension is going to manage the rest.
